Today was the first day of our St. Patricks day show, and what a show it was! Location: Roller Derby
At dance class there is a list of shows we can sign up for, the first one was on the 8th at the Roller Derby. I had no clue what a roller derby was, but its a show, right? I signed up.
We finally found it, and while standing outside with another irish dancer (8 years old, novice dancer) we could hear them introducing the skaters, such as “12 gauge” and some others that I wanted to cover the other dancers ears for. Luckily, However, she was talking, not listening.
When we went in and found the other 6 dancers (8 altogether including me) we went to line up. Basically, we were their halftime show. While waiting for the halftime we were watching about 6 people fall over and start punching each other, and some shouting in which we DID cover the four little girls ears for. While watching this I’m thinking, “What am I doing here!?” But I couldn’t for much longer because then it was time to go on.
About the performance I can say only one thing, NEVER JUDGE AN AUDIENCE BY IT’S SPORT! They were literally the BEST audience we have had in a reeeallly looong time. In the middle of one of the Open soft shoe performances me and the other three people just started laughing because, well, were just thinking, “We’re dancing at a roller derby!” It was a really big crowd, and the applause was great, and it was just a really great place to dance (in terms of audience and space to dance, the concrete kind of hurt though).
Everyone else thought the same. Someone said, “It’s completely weird, but it’s weird and strange, and wonderful…” and I agree!
I love things like that, it’s just so much fun!
Peace.<3
