Summer School

Posted July 26th, 2008 by irishdancr

URG…whoever invented summer school sucks–No, wait, whoever invented Health and made it a required class sucks.
And Health wouldn’t be such a bad thing if it didn’t take up your elective, along with geography…My crazy History teacher made us memorize every country in the world, along with the major geological features of most of the continents…Do I reallllly have to take geography instead of something fun?? Not cool…

Hmm…it seems like I complain a lot about school, huh? I don’t mean too. Middle School just reallly bugged me, and when I got mad I complained on here, so… sorrrry! I actually do like school most of the time…depending on the teacher (and whether they are crazy or not)

By the way, my crazy history teacher made us take a test on the second to last day of school…a big one. By then grades where supposed to be turned in, but she told us she found a way to sneak it in (which as it turns out she didn’t) Didn’t matter, I didn’t study, but got an A in the class. ANYway, we were trying to convince her not to give it to us when someone yells out, “Please Mrs ____?? This is evil!” and she replies with, “Well I thought you had learned by now that I am evil.”
Yeah…it was great :D

Hmm. Back on the subject of Health though. That was the one class that almost messed up my brother, so I decided to take it during summer to get it out of the way.
As it turns out, my class is the biggest (40 whereas the norm is 11) and the class room, is in the middle of nowhere, inside a highschool in the middle of nowhere…I honestly didn’t think there was a “nowhere” in California, but as we where driving home through strawberry fields and I saw a tumbleweed blow across the road, I was indeed proven wrong! Woohoo!

Yeah, but thats not so bad, if you disregard school starting at 7:40…I can’t stand getting up in the morning, Im lazy :D
Most of the time I sit in the back of class with pictures of the outside in my head…

haha :D

Okay..Now the whooole point of my post–that is if anyone actually will read the whole thing…
Why is dancing never considered a sport? Its honestly harder than running or football, or etc…whatever. In the “Exercise Pyramid” in our book it lists ballet and dancing as something you should do “one or two times every few weeks”
Thanks.
Grrr! Thats soo not cool. Honestly, to give you a bad comparison of how hard it’s done, if done right, particularly in Irish Dance, then its like doing hurdles for a minute and a half, but while your doing it your racing your opponents, and doing it in a correct form, otherwise you loose. While you jump your legs have to be perfectly straight and hitting your bum, posture perfect, hands to your side, toes pointed and turned out, etc… Oh! and smiling…
But of course most text books don’t think of Irish dancing, or really even competitive dance like ballroom for example when they make these, which is understandable I guess–But it said Ballet? I have a lot of respect for anyone still addicted to competitive dance by the time they are in high school. It means they are dedicated to their sport, and usually they are close to or already champions.
So when they say ballet, usually the person still doing it at this point, will not be doing it once or twice a week, more like every single day.
Then dance could also be argued as not a sport, but an art form, which is true–But thats why I said competitive dance, which is usually a lot more intense than performance dance–less art, more sport.
It just bugs me, alot.
And when our teacher–trying to get us to be “active”–is naming off sports all the way from football, to tennis, to lacrosse, to horseback riding, and can’t even say dance, yeah that reallly bugs me…
It reminds me of last year, when our PE teacher was making us run a mile every class period. By the way, I hate long distance running, honestly it is like the bane of my existance. Im good at sprinting, but since I’m so short I could be taking twice the strides of someone who is 5′5”, whereas I am just barely 5′, and they would beat me. Which sucks, but it’s not like I can do anything about it. But we were running, and after the first three miles, I pretty much refused to try hard anymore. Bad mindset yes, but not only can I not stand running, I can’t stand someone making me do it. I’m stubborn :D
Yeah, so it was our last lap, and I was just about to pass the teacher where he was standing on the side watching, and I told him I would rather do five hornpipes than a mile.
“Dancings not a sport!” was all I got as my reply…GRRRR!!!!
“THEN YOU DO IT!!!”
I was actually surprised that he didn’t make me run another lap or get mad, because I’m sure he heard me, but he didn’t say anything back, so I finished the stupid mile with a time of 8:40…woohoo.

But why isn’t it ever considered a sport? All hard types of dance, from Ballet, to Irish, to Break dance is hard and physical, and yet its still considered one of those things you do “once or twice every few weeks”

Whatever.
